I have implemented the Daily 5...somewhat. My kids haven't made it farther than 6 minutes. I am not sure they are understanding "stamina". But there is another thing we have had some success in doing. I pick the books for their boxes and give them small sticky notes. They "read" the books and decide if they are: too easy, too hard, or just right, and write that on the note and stick it one the front covers of the books. I've also treated the kids...not truly Daily 5... with reading with a buddy time...if we increase our stamina time. This has been a huge hit!
I wanted to implement Daily 5 and hopefully...at a later date CAFE, because I love the idea behind both...students being more autonomous and owning their own learning.
Give me 5!
